Course Content

The Physical Education program at SNS is designed to develop the mental, emotional, social and physical aspects of living necessary for a productive life. Students will be exposed to traditional, non-traditional, team and individual sports with a fitness theme integrated in each. Students are introduced to the skills, rules and strategies of each sport. Emphasis is placed on individual growth. Physical Education classes will meet 4 days a week.

The Health Education program at SNS is designed to assist students in gaining comprehension in health promotion and disease prevention. Health Education classes will be held 1 day a week.

The Career Planning program is for 8th graders only. It is designed to ensure all students are informed and prepared for their future careers regardless of whether they plan to go directly to work, technical or community college, university or military. Career Planning will be integrated into 8th grade language arts and sporadically during PE.

Overview

Physical Education: Swimming, In-line Skating, Aerobic Dance, Yoga, Track/Field, Soccer, Basketball, Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Badmitton, Tennis, Paddleball, Field Hockey, Bowling, Golf, Slow Pitch Softball, Bike Riding, Bocce

Health Education: health promotion, disease prevention, how to accesss health information and health promoting products, goal setting and decision making skills that enhance health

Career Planning: understanding the workplace, self-awareness, exploring careers, goal setting, decision making, workplace skills, career/education planning, job search

Materials

PE/Health folder, deodorant kept in locker, extra shirt may be worn under school uniform shirt, athletic shoes to be worn every day, career planning divider

Evaluation

Participation 50%; Nine Week Test 25%; Homework 15%; Tests 10%; Career Planning will be incorporated into the homework grade.
