<< Back to Curriculum | Radio Broadcasting

Instructor: Mrs. Parrett

Course Description:

  • Students will study the history of radio in our culture and discuss the impact of radio as a mass medium.
  • Students will complete several projects, both in groups and individually, which demonstrate their knowledge of music genres, historic timelines in mass media, radio station formats, and advertising.
  • Students will research various topics of local interest and write them in journalistic format.
  • Students will perform a live show, Shark Bites Live, every week.
  • Students will learn proper speech and enunciation techniques.

Evaluation:
Students will be graded using a point system for determining grades. Each assignment, project, test, or homework assignment has a certain number of points possible. For example, a test or project may be worth 100 points, while a quiz or homework assignment may be worth 10 or 20 points. To determine the cumulative grade, the total points earned will be divided by the total points possible.

90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
0-59 F

Make-Up Work:

It is the responsibility of the student to ask for make-up work after an absence. The student will have the same number of days to ask for and complete the make-up work as the length of the absence. If a student is absent for one day, he must ask for make-up work the next day, and it must be turned it by the next day. There is a yellow make-up folder in the classroom where make-up assignments will be. Students should check this folder upon their return following an absence.

Late Work:

Late work will be accepted only ONE day late and points will be deducted for late work.

Behavior Expectations:
  • Students must be prepared for class every day with pencil, paper, and any other supplies.
  • Students should get to class on time. We will be rushing off to the studio many days, so being on time is very important.
  • Students must respect others at all times. We all have different interests in music and other topics, so please respect everyone’s individuality.
  • Students will be expected to behave in a mature manner during recording time in the studio.
  • As soon as students are finished in the studio, they must return immediately to the classroom.
