Course Description:
- Students will study the history of radio in our culture and discuss the impact of radio as a mass medium.
- Students will complete several projects, both in groups and individually, which demonstrate their knowledge of music genres, historic timelines in mass media, radio station formats, and advertising.
- Students will research various topics of local interest and write them in journalistic format.
- Students will perform a live show, Shark Bites Live, every week.
- Students will learn proper speech and enunciation techniques.
Evaluation:
Students will be graded using a point system for determining grades. Each assignment, project, test, or homework assignment has a certain number of points possible. For example, a test or project may be worth 100 points, while a quiz or homework assignment may be worth 10 or 20 points. To determine the cumulative grade, the total points earned will be divided by the total points possible.

It is the responsibility of the student to ask for make-up work after an absence. The student will have the same number of days to ask for and complete the make-up work as the length of the absence. If a student is absent for one day, he must ask for make-up work the next day, and it must be turned it by the next day. There is a yellow make-up folder in the classroom where make-up assignments will be. Students should check this folder upon their return following an absence.
Late Work:
Late work will be accepted only ONE day late and points will be deducted for late work.
Behavior Expectations:
- Students must be prepared for class every day with pencil, paper, and any other supplies.
- Students should get to class on time. We will be rushing off to the studio many days, so being on time is very important.
- Students must respect others at all times. We all have different interests in music and other topics, so please respect everyone’s individuality.
- Students will be expected to behave in a mature manner during recording time in the studio.
- As soon as students are finished in the studio, they must return immediately to the classroom.
